You’ve probably heard of Forbes’ Hip-Hop Cash Kings list, where they rank the top 20 moneymakers in the rap world. But they’ve also started compiling a Hip-Hop Cash Princes list, meant to predict which young rap stars are most likely to make it on to the Cash Kings list in the future, and today Forbes released the list in full.
Compiled by Hit-Boy, Charlamagne Tha God, Atlantic Records chief Craig Kallman, the legendary Lovebug Starski, and three Forbes staffers, the Hip-Hop Cash Kings list is topped by Fetty Wap following his breakout 2015. Joey Bada$$ is a surprising entry on the list, even though the sales of his debut album blew everyone away, as is Young Dolph, who’s been getting money since before he came into the rap game.
Rap producers show out well on the list, as the young star Metro Boomin and Drake’s right-hand man Boi-1da both make appearances. Women also figure into the rankings, as DeJ Loaf and UK rapper Little Simz both get recognition as some of the youngest money makin’ females out right now. And of course the white rapper delegation had to show up; G-Eazy, Lil’ Dicky, and Logic have been stacking their bread, so it makes sense that they eventually ascend to Cash King status.
“Logic is interesting because he doesn’t get radio play, but he has one of those cult-like followings fueled by social media and they actually support him when his album drops,” says Charlamagne, while Hit-Boy claims Little Simz, who he’s worked with in the past for songs like “Don’t Forget,” is “very, very gifted and focused […] I think she definitely has the mind to take it all the way.”
