Idris Elba ‘splits’ with long-term girlfriend Naiyana Garth

Idris Elba has reportedly split with his long-term girlfriend Naiyana Garth. The Luther star, 43, recently moved out of the London home he shared with the makeup artist and their 22-month-old son Winston, according to the Sun.

He is now living in a nearby apartment so he can remain close to his little boy.

“It ended very recently and it’s too soon for her to talk about it,” a source close to Naiyana told the newspaper.

“They’ve kept it very quiet, so she’s surprised people already know. It’s very sad that this has happened while Idris is experiencing the highest points of his professional career and they can’t celebrate it with each other.”

Idris started dating 28-year-old Naiyana in the summer of 2013, and they welcomed their baby boy in April 2014.

Rumours started to swirl about their relationship following the SAG Awards in Los Angeles last month. Idris, who won two awards – best actor in a miniseries for BBC crime series Luther, and best supporting actor in the child soldier drama Beasts of No Nation – attended the ceremony with his 13-year-old daughter Isan, rather than his partner.

There was further speculation when Idris name-checked a number of people in his acceptance speech after winning best actor at the British Film Awards on Sunday night, but notably not Naiyana. When asked if he was single, the star replied: “That’s the media for you.”

News of the split comes just a few days after Idris was spotted at a New York nightclub with supermodel Naomi Campbell. The pair are thought to have become friends after the actor took part in her Fashion For Relief charity event in 2014.

Naomi was among those who publicly congratulated Idris on his SAG Awards win, tweeting: “Congratulations @Idriselba you deserve your double WIN. @SAGawards.”
