Rihanna Recruits Drake for “Work,” Her First ‘ANTI’ Single

Rihanna-Drake-Work

With all eyes on Kanye West and his album name change, few were ready or anticipating a major drop from Rihanna, but that’s what the singer delivered early Wednesday morning (Jan. 27) in the form of a new single. Fans were offered a snippet of the Drake featured “Work” a few weeks ago, and it was reported that the former couple was shooting a video for the track in Los Angeles, and now the song is available for all.

The Boi-1da, Allen Ritter and SEVN Thomas-produced track is available exclusively at Tidal and evokes Rihanna’s cultural and musical roots with a slightly Caribbean sound. The new single marks the third time Drake and Rihanna have recorded together with “What’s My Name?” and “Take Care” as the previous efforts.

What’s perhaps more revealing is Rihanna’s tweet (see below) describing “Work” as the first single off her upcoming album ANTI. It was widely believed that “Bitch Better Have My Money” was the singer’s lead single, and late last year, there was a dispute over whether Travis Scott was forcing Rihanna’s hand with the release. Songwriter Glass John had said on Twitter that it was Scott who encouraged her to make a “trap hood ghetto album” and release “Bitch Better Have My Money” as the lead singer instead of the John-penned “Kiss It Better.” It’s peculiar then that Rihanna would write “FIRST SINGLE” when introducing the song.

The single drop comes a day after Billboard reports that ANTI will receive a surprise release date, likely before the week’s end. To check out “Work,” head over to Tidal and be on the lookout for anything additional from Rihanna in the coming days.
